Things to do in St. John's and Surrounding Area
First of all - pack a camera and be prepared to have lots of film or memory space! There is a photograph everywhere you turn in St. John's and the surrounding countryside.
Tour historic St. John's, the oldest community in North America with ample time to visit and enjoy such highlights as the National Historic Park on Signal Hill, Cabot Tower, the Basilica and the Anglican Cathedral. Take a trip outside of St. John's and visit Cape Spear - the most easterly point of land in North America. The lighthouse here is a National Historic site and has been restored to circa 1839. See the Newfoundland pitcher plant, partridgeberry and bakeapple plants. Also visit Petty Harbour, a traditional fishing village with stages, colourful boats, and local people who always offer a friendly greeting.
